National Agriculture Day

March 18, 2015 by FSGA

“So God Made a Farmer,” is the name given to theĀ speech given by landmark radio broadcaster Paul Harvey at a 1978 Future Farmers of America convention. It’s a message that that rings true today as much as it did nearly four decades ago.

Our farmersĀ are awake before the sun is up and they don’t rest until after the sun comes down. Today is a day to celebrate their sacrifice, their hard work and their dedication to our future. Today is a day to thank a farmer. Today is National Agriculture Day.

National Agriculture Day is a day to recognize and celebrate the work done by those that feed our country.

Ag Day is about recognizing – and celebrating – the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives. The National Ag Day program encourages every American to:

  • Understand how food and fiber products are produced.
  • Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.
  • Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products.

About Florida Winter Strawberries

In 1980, a few strawberry growers began meeting in their homes to discuss the best way to organize a group that would represent the interests of the Florida strawberry industry. On February 11, 1982, the Florida Strawberry Growers Association (FSGA) was born. Hillsborough County is recognized as the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World and the home of some of the sweetest, reddest and juiciest strawberries around.
